FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why should I use the services of a Private Doctor?

Carfax Private Medical Services is an affordable alternative to traditional NHS General Practice. It allows for easier access to appointments, longer consultation times, and a highly personalised service ensuring continuation of care. Investigations and results are more rapidly accessible. In addition the clinic offers dental, osteopathy and complimentary therapies so in effect a "one-stop shop".

2. Can I still keep my NHS GP?

Yes, you can continue being registered with your GP, and keep receiving NHS care. We offer a service that runs alongside your traditional GP services.

3. Is private medicine expensive?

No, private medicine does not have to be expensive. We offer appointments from only £ 45.00. We can arrange any investigation necessary privately. We can also refer you back to your GP, to have the investigations carried out on the NHS.

If a consultant opinion is required, we can refer you to either the private sector or the NHS. Seeing us as a private patient does not compromise your eligibility for NHS care.

4. Will my visit be confidential?

Your consultation with the clinic will be confidential. We can provide you with a short report to give to your GP, if you need this. If appropriate a longer report may be provided within a few days. We will always recommend you to let your own doctor know what we have suggested, so that your ongoing care is not compromised in any way

We will never write to your GP without your consent.

6. Do you offer an out of hours emergency service?

Currently we do not offer emergency cover or home visits. We would therefore recommend that you stay registered with your local NHS GP, so that any home visits or emergencies are covered.

7. Where do I get my prescription dispensed?

A private prescription can be dispensed at any pharmacy. All prescriptions are private prescriptions, and so you will not be eligible to any prescription fee exemptions. Alternatively, we can write to your GP, with our recommendation, and you can then discuss this with your GP and get an NHS prescription.

Private insurance companies do not usually cover patients for Private GP consultations, but they may pay for some investigations. This depends on the terms of your individual policy. If you think you may wish to claim back the costs of your visit and any tests we may carry out and which you will pay for at your consultation, please check with your insurance company before you come to see us. Health screening aims to examine a person when they are well or without symptoms, and detect early signs of disease.
