| Herbal Medicine |
The use of plants or plant extracts to cure and heal the human body is as old as the history of mankind. We have used plant medicine – herbal medicines since time immemorial and many conventional drugs owe their origin to plant sources including the ubiquitous aspirin.
There are a number of schools of herbal medicine the prominent ones being the Chinese and Indian schools. Herbs are used typically to treat inflammatory, antispasmodic and immunostimulatory issues. The herbal practitioner looks at the current issue as one of the manifestations of a bigger systematic issue and so he will take extensive case history along with other relevant variables such as your lifestyle food patterns. Patients are prescribed individualistic combinations of herbs along with certain dietary restrictions (if necessary).
The aim of herbal medicine is to remove the cause from the root and offer an improvement in the quality of life. The practitioner aims at treating the underlying cause and not the symptom(s). |
